The Business Analyst independently evaluates business processes, defines requirements, and drives assigned system and process improvements for a food manufacturing company with more than 600 employees and six manufacturing plants. The role works directly with employees, department leaders, internal technical resources, and vendors to turn business needs into practical solutions.
A significant initial priority is participating in discovery and evaluation for a new ERP system, including documenting current processes, identifying gaps, and defining future requirements. The analyst owns assigned work from investigation through implementation and follow-up, recommends solutions, and brings forward decisions requiring leadership approval. Ongoing responsibilities include ERP and EDI support, data quality, documentation, training, and identifying useful applications of AI and automation.
Business Analysis and Process Improvement:
• Independently plan and conduct interviews, working sessions, and plant observations to understand processes, business needs, and root causes of problems.
• Document current and proposed workflows, business requirements, process gaps, and acceptance criteria. Validate findings with the employees and leaders responsible for the work.
• Compare practices across plants and departments, recommend common processes where practical, and document necessary operational differences.
• Evaluate alternatives, quantify expected benefits where practical, and recommend solutions that reduce manual effort, errors, delays, and unnecessary complexity.
ERP Discovery and Implementation:
• Own assigned discovery activities, requirements documentation, and follow-up with department leaders, plant teams, and ERP vendors.
• Gather and prioritize requirements across purchasing, inventory, production, scheduling, warehousing, costing, finance, and other business functions.
• Document food manufacturing requirements such as recipes and bills of material, ingredient consumption, lot traceability, yields, waste, shelf life, units of measure, and quality holds.
• Develop business scenarios for vendor demonstrations and testing; assess proposed capabilities against requirements and document gaps, risks, and open decisions.
• Identify master data issues and coordinate cleanup with data owners. Support data mapping, migration validation, and reconciliation during implementation.
• Develop test scenarios, coordinate user acceptance testing, track defects, and verify that changes meet agreed requirements before release.
Project Ownership and Communication
• Manage assigned projects and workstreams, maintaining clear scope, priorities, milestones, dependencies, decisions, and action items.
• Proactively follow up on commitments, resolve routine issues, and communicate progress without requiring frequent direction.
• Escalate material risks, resource conflicts, scope changes, and decisions requiring approval, with a recommendation and assessment of business impact.
• Coordinate with business leaders, internal technical teams, and vendors. Business leaders retain approval of process changes and business requirements.
ERP and EDI Support:
• Independently investigate ERP, EDI, and related system issues; determine business impact, identify likely causes, and coordinate resolution with technical resources or vendors.
• Track issues through resolution, keep affected users informed, and identify recurring problems that warrant process, training, or system improvements.
• Assess the effect of proposed changes on connected systems, data, reporting, and users before implementation.
Documentation, Training, and Technology:
• Create and maintain clear procedures, process maps, job aids, and user instructions that reflect how work is performed.
• Plan and deliver training for assigned changes, provide follow-up support, and confirm that users can apply updated processes.
• Identify and evaluate practical AI and automation opportunities; define expected benefits and validate results using company-approved tools and data practices.
